Video Poker Terms

ActionOpportunity to act. A players turn is his action.
AnteA small bet given by each player to start the pot at the beginning of a poker hand.
Burnbetween each betting round before putting out the next community card(s) there is a process of discarding the top card from the deck, face down. This is done as security against any player recognizing or glimpsing the next card to be used on the board.
Complete HandA hand that is defined by all five cards - a straight, flush, full house, four of a kind or a straight flush.
HouseThe place running the game.
Inside StraightA hand that has four of the cards necessary for a straight but needs one in the middle to complete it.
KickerAn unpaired card used to determine which of two near - equivalent hands is better.
MuckThe pile of folded and burned cards in front of the dealer.
Open - ended straightFour successive cards needing one at either end to make a straight.
PocketYour exclusive cards that only you can see.
ProtectTo keep your hand or place a chip on your cards. This prevents them from being fouled by a discarded hand, or accidentally being mucked by the dealer.
QuadsFour of a kind.
RankThe numerical value of a card.
TellA sign or indication that a player accidentally gives about the strength of his hand or next action.
TokeA small sum of money that the winner of the pot gives the dealer.
TripThree of a kind.
VarianceA measure of the up and down swings your fund goes through.
